Little Piggies

I don’t think I ever heard of a guinea pig until I was an adult. After seeing one I never thought I would ever have one or more to share my home but I have 2 of the sweet little things. My daughter bought them and later decided she could not take care of them so they ended up here with me. They are very entertaining and smart, why they can tell time as well as I can and I have to use a clock. I love them and they are very easy to care for.

They have  food available to them at all times so they never get hungry. If I do not have their fresh veggies to them by a little after five each evening though DK starts whistling and he whistles and whistles louder each time until I get in there with his veggies. See I told you they can tell time. :) He does love his lettuce, bell peppers carrots and cucumbers. He loves carrots best of any veggie and would eat them until he couldn’t hold another bite if he could get them. He got sick once and I learned he was sick from eating too many carrots. After taking him off fresh carrots he got well. I am very careful about how many carrots he eats now and he mostly gets dried ones.

If DK needs timothy hay he rings a bell that is on a toy hanging in his cage. It amazes me that he has different ways to let me know what he wants or needs.

When I get to him with the veggies he almost knocks the bowl out of my hand trying to get to them. He turns the bowl on its side after I place it in his cage and he eats until there is nothing left in that bowl. He gobbles and really puts his veggies down in a hurry.

Snowball rarely whistles or makes any sounds but when he does he is much quieter than DK. He loves his veggies too and gets real excited when he sees me coming with his bowl. He eats much slower than DK and he never turns his bowl over. He eats his lettuce first, then his peppers and sometime in the night he finishes off his veggies by eating the cucumbers. He does not like fresh carrots and will not eat them but he does like dried carrots.

I never dreamed these little guys could be so much fun and loveable. After dogs and cats they are my favorite little critters as pets.
